Abstract
In the ever-changing world of digital entrepreneurship, young entrepreneurs' digital skills are essential for economic growth, especially in developing nations like Malaysia. This study examines the complex digital literacy (DL) barriers young Malaysian entrepreneurs face. A new study will fuel the debate. A comprehensive study examines Malaysia's digital literacy issues. The researchers interviewed 30 randomly selected digital literacy novices using Ministry of Entrepreneur and Co-operatives Development data. Thematic analysis with NVivo 20 identified E-Commerce, agricultural technology, data and AI, and entertainment topics. The study examines nine barriers to early-stage digital literacy in Malaysia: limited technology access, digital infrastructure gaps, a lack of digital skills, cybersecurity concerns, limited digital marketing knowledge, economic barriers, regulatory challenges, resistance to change, and language barriers. The study suggests ways to improve early digital literacy support. This study has practical implications beyond digital literacy development. It shows project-stopping issues. Institutions, technology, and communities need digital skills to address these issues. Research supports sustainable funding mechanisms, improved guidance and advisory services, resilience against unexpected failures/risks, and economic obstacle strategies. It helps decision-makers address early-stage digital literacy and startup issues. This study is critical because it identifies and addresses early-stage digital literacy issues in Malaysia. This study clarifies digital literacy's complexity. It helps Malaysian policymakers and stakeholders create effective early digital literacy policies.
