Vocabulary Used Semi-formal, bringing a fresh and new style of talk show.The conversation is casual and sometimes informal, even between candidates and the host. The host engaging young people as audience, as performers, and as collaborators to run the show. Formal, old-style campaign. Attempted to lessening the level of issue, and perform casual talk. To some extent, this effort is successful, but the level of intimacy only maintained between host and participants, not included the audience particularly young audience.
Stereotypes and characterizations of people Young people are dynamic and creative.They love jokes and everything ‘fun’.They don’t like politics, and lack of appreciation for politicians.Let’s listen what they want. (Candidate 3)Millennials, be like …Idealistic, less pragmatic, love gadgets, individualistic, need more character building (53:00) to Anak-anakku(Candidate 4) Young people don’t like something serious (or too serious!). (Candidate 1)Millennials is digital native born with unique characteristics. They love jokes and humour.
The Conflict Resolutions All candidates proposed strategy or program to resolve the problems as articulated by youths in clips of interview. Not only the candidates addressed the problem, but also sharing ways to engage young people in the solution. (Candidate 3)Young people need more education and guidance. It’s the task of the older generations to advice and counsel them. What kind of advice? Be responsible, be smart. Think of the future.(Candidate 4)To reach young people, we need socialization, not mobilization. Mobilization is not good. Here, candidate no 4 acknowledged every citizen’s right to ‘not voting’. (Candidate 1)Young people have different characteristic compared with the older one. To bridge the gap, a leader should embrace them, listen, and be friendliest as possible.
