Personality Traits and Eating Disorders

Abstract

Eating disorders are concerning mental health problems in our today’s society. A sample of 91 university students, aged between 23 and 41 years old, all of them female, 48.35% married or in a stable relationship, and 51.65% single, has accepted to be part of this research. We used Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III (MCMI-III) and the Inventory of Eating Behaviour Disorders (EDI-3) to assess the correlations between the wish to be slim and personality traits like anxiety, depression, and dependency, also considering the variable marital status. In the case of married subjects or subjects involved in stable relationships, no significant correlations were obtained between the variable desire to be slim and the dependency scales, anxiety, and depression. On the other hand, in the case of single subjects, significant correlations have been identified between the above-mentioned scales: the desire to be slim and the dependency (rho=0.719, p=.000); the desire to be slim and the anxiety scale (rho=0.536, p=.000); desire to be slim and the major depression scale (rho=0.697, p=.000). Results are discussed in the context of the importance of marital status for mental health and wellbeing of young people.

Introduction

The article entitled "Personality Traits and Eating Disorders" by M. F. Călin & C. Sălceanu published in European Proceedings of Educational Sciences, v.5, pp. 524-536, DOI: 10.15405/epes.23045.54 has been retracted by Volume Editors (E. Soare, & C. Langa).

After publication, Nicoleta Gena Oncescu has reached out to the publisher and raised plagiarism concerns by stating that several parts of her master’s thesis were used by her supervisor, Mariana Floricica Călin from Ovidius University of Constant. She presented us with convincing evidence by annotating translated pages from her thesis and the mentioned article in which she has identified the passages and figures that are problematic. Editors compared the translated texts from her thesis and found out that they share the same hypothesis and results. She also provided us with the correspondence between her and her master’s thesis supervisor showing that the article has been published without the knowledge and permission of her.

Volume editors investigated the issue by asking the corresponding author for an explanation, but the corresponding author gave no plausible response. Volume editors made the decision to retract the article and put the writers on a blacklist for any future submissions in light of the evidence. Publisher apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. https://doi.org/10.15405/epes.23045.54
