Abstract
This study aims to (1) identify the key behavioral (attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control) and innovation-related factors (relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, observability) influencing modern hive adoption among Sabah’s stingless beekeepers, and (2) assess the combined predictive power of TPB and DOI frameworks using PLS-SEM. Key constructs analyzed include attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, observability, and trialability. Despite the potential benefits of modern hives, adoption remains limited, with fewer than 30% of registered beekeepers using this technology, constraining productivity and environmental conservation efforts. Data from 166 stingless beekeepers were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling with SmartPLS software. The findings indicate that attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, complexity, and trialability significantly influence adoption intentions, whereas relative advantage, compatibility, and observability do not. These insights highlight behavioural and contextual factors affecting the adoption of modern hives, offering practical recommendations for stakeholders to promote sustainable beekeeping. This research contributes to advancing sustainable practices in stingless beekeeping, enhancing productivity, and supporting environmental sustainability in Malaysia.
