The Factors Of Cyberbullying Among Gen Z On Social Media

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of cyberbullying among Gen Z on social media emphasizing addiction to internet usage, social media platforms and unethical behavior as key factors. Cyberbullying is a rising problem that has a major impact on the mental health of young adults; Malaysia has one of Asia’s highest incidences of cyberbullying. Past research has examined its effects but has not thoroughly investigated the connections between addiction to internet usage, social media platforms and unethical behavior among Gen Z. This study aims to investigate the issue by examining data obtained from a survey of 392 students aged 18-29 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Using a structured questionnaire and statistical analysis, the study found substantial correlations between addiction to internet usage and cyberbullying (r = .828, p < 0.01), social media platforms and cyberbullying (r = .775, p < 0.01) and unethical behavior and cyberbullying (r = .761, p < 0.01). These findings highlight how important it is to encourage ethical online behavior and restrict social media use in order to lower the number of cyberbullying occurrences. This study clarifies the relationship among addiction to internet usage, social media platforms and unethical behavior, providing significant insights for educators, mental health practitioners and lawmakers aiming to foster safer online environments. This research highlights the necessity for specific measures to promote responsible online behavior and minimize the effects of cyberbullying on Generation Z.
