The Importance Of The Affective Domain And Its Strategies In Teaching And Learning: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

This systematic literature review (SLR) examines the significance of the affective domain in education and its implications for teaching and learning strategies. The affective domain, which includes emotional and value-based components of learning, plays a pivotal role in shaping well-rounded students. This review synthesises research on how the affective domain influences academic achievement, personal development, and professional growth. The SLR analysed 20 studies from various global contexts, evaluating how affective outcomes contribute to student engagement, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating affective learning strategies, such as reflective practices, emotional intelligence training, and experiential learning, to foster students’ personal and academic development. Furthermore, this paper identifies gaps in the current literature and offers recommendations for future research, particularly in integrating affective learning with cognitive development and exploring its impact on long-term student success. The review concludes by emphasising the need for educators to embrace the affective domain as an essential component of holistic education, which can lead to the cultivation of more resilient, empathetic, and socially responsible individuals.
