Assessing Hybrid Learning Practices In Malaysian Tertiary Institutions: A Review
Abstract
High-quality tertiary education plays a vital role in preparing learners to compete globally and secure strong employment opportunities. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which emphasises the provision of quality education, learners must be equipped with the essential skills and competencies required by industries. Shift 9 of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2015-2025, focusing on Globalised Online Learning, underscores the importance of integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. Consequently, numerous tertiary institutions have begun implementing hybrid learning methods in their educational frameworks. Previous literature has revealed mixed perceptions regarding the application of hybrid learning among the learners and educators in higher education context. Findings from this review highlight various benefits and challenges associated with the implementation of hybrid learning at higher learning institutions. The findings from this review offer valuable insights for the Ministry of Education, university administrators, and educators, aiding in the development of effective strategies for improving hybrid learning implementation. These key findings are instrumental in enhancing the use of hybrid learning approaches in teaching and learning in higher learning institutions. Educators and administrators in tertiary institutions can utilise these results as a guide to refine and optimise the current application of hybrid learning methods in classrooms.
