Exploring Social Entrepreneurship Within A People-Based Economy: Integrating Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin Principles For Sustainable Development
Abstract
This study investigates the concept of social entrepreneurship within the people-based economy and examines how the principles of Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin can be integrated to ensure long-term business sustainability. Social enterprises have gained global acceptance due to their ability to generate societal benefits, while a people-based economy remains vital for Malaysia’s economic growth and overall well-being. Guided by Islamic values, this research aims to identify the ethical and critical factors that sustain social enterprises in a manner that pleases Allah, as emphasized in the Al-Quran and As-Sunnah. Using a qualitative approach, the study conducted in-depth interviews with selected social enterprises to develop and validate a sustainable development framework grounded in the people-based economy and aligned with Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin. Findings indicate that applying these principles enables social enterprises to embrace the belief in the equality of all human beings. This fosters mutual support, compassion, and dignity—key values that encourage collective progress. Individuals and enterprises guided by these values act with sincerity and kindness, seeking Allah’s blessings through their contribution to society. The proposed development model offers meaningful implications for strengthening social entrepreneurship policies and practices, steering them toward inclusive and sustainable outcomes. It highlights the importance of ethical, value-driven frameworks in shaping resilient social enterprises. Future research should include a broader pool of participants to further refine and deepen understanding of the core components influencing sustainable social entrepreneurship within this context.
