Exploring Cyber Entrepreneurship Intentions Among Students At Private Higher Education Institutions In Sabah
Abstract
The rising digitalization of economies has created a fertile ground for cyber entrepreneurship (CE), an innovative entrepreneurial model that leverages digital platforms to establish and manage businesses. This study examines the relationship between cyber entrepreneurship self-efficacy (CESE) and educational support on the intentions of undergraduate students in Sabah to pursue cyber entrepreneurship. Using Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) as a conceptual framework, the research investigates how confidence in entrepreneurial digital skills and the perceived support from educational institutions influence entrepreneurial aspirations. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, with data collected through standardized surveys from 137 undergraduate students in private universities and colleges across Sabah. The findings reveal a significant positive association between CESE and cyber entrepreneurship intention, highlighting the critical role of self-confidence in digital entrepreneurial skills. Conversely, educational support demonstrated an insignificant relationship with entrepreneurial intentions, suggesting potential gaps in the current educational approaches to fostering entrepreneurship. These findings offer insights into promoting cyber entrepreneurship among youth, particularly in regions facing high unemployment, and provide recommendations for policymakers and educational institutions to refine their strategies for supporting aspiring cyber entrepreneurs.
