Abstract
The research examines how economic growth trajectories converge among ten ASEAN nations, using panel data from 2017 to 2023. Key variables include per capita GNI, unemployment levels, FDI inflows, human development metrics, measures of economic freedom, and inflation patterns. This study applies the coefficient of variation to detect σ-convergence and a dynamic panel-data approach to examine both absolute and conditional β-convergence. Findings indicate the presence of σ-convergence and an absolute β-convergence trend among ASEAN economies. The conditional-convergence estimations reveal that lagged GNI per capita, together with human-development indicators, inflationary pressures, unemployment levels, and foreign direct-investment inflows, exerts a statistically substantive influence on contemporaneous GNI per capita. Conversely, the Economic Freedom Index exhibits no discernible explanatory power within the model. This study thereby augments the existing corpus of scholarship on regional economic integration and furnishes policy-relevant insights for decision-makers within ASEAN and comparable regional economic blocs.
