Interpersonal Attraction From The Perspectives Of Money Mule

Abstract

In this perilous and tumultuous environment, interpersonal attraction can be a crucial factor in fostering positive connections, while its absence can lead to negative emotions and unfavourable ways of interacting with others. Our social connections are formed through interpersonal attraction, leading to the development of both platonic and romantic relationships, as well as ties with colleagues, neighbours, and others we have yet to encounter. The degree of our attraction or repulsion towards another person is determined by their individual traits and the social circumstances in which they exist when we form intimate connections. However, this study demonstrates a preference for the opposing aspect of the human attraction. This study examines the relationship between scammers and money mules that lead to crime victimization. The money mule in Malaysia was the subject of this study. The population of this study consists of all individuals who were classified as money mules or who were indicted as such. The researcher begins the process with contacting Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) to get the data of the informants. The sample size consisted of nine informants. The interview approach is conducted using in-depth interviews to gather comprehensive information pertaining to interpersonal attraction between the scammer and the money mule. The interview session takes up 20 to 30 minutes each. Nvivo 14 is used to analyse the transcribed data. Nine informants formed the sample of this research. Based on the data analysis, interpersonal attraction from perspectives of money mule can be categorized into five themes, which are complementary, similarity, socially desirable characteristics, perceiver characteristics, and familiarity.
