Category Description
Direct advice Advice or information where the speaker attempts to cause the addressee to do something i.e. including imperatives and the modal verb should as in “You should…”.
Hedged advice Advice or information contains explicit hedges, hedging devices, or softeners of various types, e.g., expressions like "I think," "it seems that," or questions like "Why don’t you," "Aren’t you," or modal verbs other than “should”.
Indirect advice Advice or information that has no explicit or hedged advice but has enough information to act on it.
Description of personalexperience Advice or information that has no explicit, hedged advice, or indirect advice but has an account of how the person dealt with the situation an advice seeker described.
